Cause of Fever & Bronchitis??

Many concerned friends asked me about the cause of Shannon's high fever and Bronchitis. I am wondering too and found the following on the web...

What Is Bronchitis?

Bronchitis is a respiratory disease in which the mucous membrane in the lungs' bronchial passages become inflamed. As the irritated membrane swells and grows thicker, it narrows or shuts off the tiny airways in the lungs, resulting in coughing spells accompanied by thick phlegm and breathlessness. The disease comes in two forms: acute (lasting less than 6 weeks) and chronic (reoccurring frequently for more than two years).

Acute bronchitis is responsible for the hacking cough and phlegm production that sometimes accompany an upper respiratory infection. In most cases the infection is viral in origin, but sometimes it's caused by bacteria. If you are otherwise in good health, the mucous membrane will return to normal after you've recovered from the initial lung infection, which usually lasts for several days.

What Causes It?

Acute bronchitis is generally caused by lung infections; approximately 90% of these infections are viral in origin, 10% bacterial. Chronic bronchitis may be caused by one or several factors. Repeated attacks of acute bronchitis, which weaken and irritate bronchial airways over time, can result in chronic bronchitis.

The symptoms for acute bronchitis are:

- Hacking cough. chk!

- Yellow, white, or green phlegm, usually appearing 24 to 48 hours after a cough.
- Fever, chills. chk!
- Soreness and tightness in chest. chk!
- Some pain below breastbone during deep breathing
- Some shortness of breath chk!

Conclusion -

On Sunday, the doctor in the hospital said it was Viral Fever as there were no infection found in her Ear, Throat, Blood, Urine and Chest X-Ray.

Looking at the symptoms, Shannon kenna 4 out of 6 in Acute Bronchitis. But 3 out of 4 symptoms popped up when her fever was under controlled on Sunday Night??? If Bronchitis causes fever, the doctor should have detected it by listening to her lungs on Sunday???

So, should we say the Viral Fever caused her to get Bronchitis??? Maybe she caught a cold (Chinese called kum dio) because we dipped her into the tub of water 10 mins after her fits? We should have tried to bring her fever down by just sponging and not immerging her to the tub of water?? We should have let her rest after her fits because her brain and body were very tired after the fits and she needs time to recover.

And what causes her High fever in the first place? Definitely not the kitten cos we have given it away 2 weeks ago. :P

- The Cold Weather? Many of my friends' kid kenna bronchitis one after another since October due to the changing of the season. At the point when Shannon was having Fever, 3 of my friends' kid were also sick either with High Fever and Bronchitis. I even met one of them at the Therapy Center.

- From the Creche? Probably... it is the easiest way to catch the virus since the children are playing together.

- Bronchitis? It seems that this is the least possibilities if you agreed with my explanation above

- Low immune System? because she has been sick with fever and cough on and off for the past weeks.

Well, whatever it is.... I hope we will deal with her condition with more care in future...

Once again, thanks for all the concerns!

Thank you
